When you give a shilling to a beggar

- do you realise that you are giving it to yourself?


When you help a lame dog over a stile

- do you realise that you yourself are being helped?


When you kick a man when he is down

- do you realise that you are kicking yourself?


Give him another kick - if you deserve it!

...Oneness plays the game of being two asleep looking for oneness. When awakening happens, it is only the dropping away of taking twoness seriously; that’s all we’re talking about here . . . This whole thing is as simple as this - all that’s in the way of awakening is a false idea. It really is. It’s a pretence which you’ve been conditioned to believe. And when the idea that you are two drops away, there is oneness.

"Thoughts are not necessarily a distraction. Nor is the body. Thoughts are arising in this present awareness and dissolving back into it. The silence remains untouched, unstained, immaculate. Thoughts are only a problem if you are preoccupied with them, giving them all your attention, believing in the entity of "me" around which the thoughts swirl. But thoughts in and of themselves are not some kind of enemy. Thoughts can be very useful, functional, and even entertaining. They are allowed in this vast clearing. No problem"

Wherever it leads you, it will be a dream. The very idea of going beyond the dream is illusory. Why go anywhere? Just realize that you are dreaming a dream you call the world, and stop looking for ways out. The dream is not your problem. Your problem is that you like one part of the dream and not another. When you have seen the dream as a dream, you have done all that needs be done.

If you set out to meditate, it will not be meditation. If you set out to be good, goodness will never flower. If you cultivate humility, it ceases to be. Meditation is the breeze that comes in when you leave the window open; but if you deliberately keep it open, deliberately invite it to come, it will never appear.

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.
